Why You Might Be Losing Rankings to Pages w Fewer Links Worse Targeting and Poor Content

Most of us have a pretty good sense for the best ways to improve our search rankings, including earning links, targeting the people who search for us, and making sure our sites contain high-quality content. Sometimes, though, we get outranked by sites that clearly have work to do in these areas. In today’s Whiteboard Friday, Rand explains some of the reasons why that might happen to you.

  1. Landing page bounce is a big problem for me. I have a local service business in South Carolina. 25% of my search traffic is from Russia (google analytics) How can I block my local business from organic search results in Russia? From what you say this "bounce" will hurt my local listing ranking and I need all the help I can get.

  2. Such bullshit u shouldnt have to twist sumones arm to get them to visit ur site by manipulating what is being said in the description, its googles job to provide the best quality page and site overal……. based on the search term.
The fact that they are showing poor quality pages simply because a site happens to be popular is disgusting and a major fail on googles part.
Its just bullshit and goes against the whole reason why google was set up in the first place, to show the most relavant result and the best content possible not the most popular site because it happens to have 1000000 links linking too it.
This just goes to show how incompetant googles algorithm really is and im sick of it….. this isnt a popularity contest its a fuckin search engine show me the best content!!

What say you?
